This memorial to the Duke of Wellington, and his beloved horse ‘Copenhagen’ was erected in 1852 and it stands outside the Balmoral Hotel. The hotel originally opened as the North British Station Hotel on 15 October 1902, and since then, the hotel’s clock has been set three minutes fast to ensure that the people of Edinburgh wouldn’t miss their trains. In February 2007 it was confirmed that author J. K. Rowling finished the Harry Potter series at this hotel.
